
Stuffed Burgers

Ingredients
- 1 beaten egg
- 1/4 cup fine dry bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil, thyme, sage or oregano, crushed
- 1 pound ground beef, ground pork, ground veal, or ground lamb
- 1/4 cup finely chopped pimiento-stuffed olives, pitted ripe olives, green pepper, or canned sliced mushrooms; or 1/4 cup shredded zucchini, carrot, or cheese
- 4 hamburger buns, split and toasted
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl combine egg, bread crumbs, milk, basil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Add meat and mix well. Shape meat mixture into eight 1/4-inch-thick patties.
- Place about 1 tablespoon olives, vegetables, or cheese atop each of four patties. Spread to within 1 inch of edges. Top with remaining patties. Press meat around edges to seal.
- Place patties on the unheated rack of a broiler pan. Broil 3 inches from the heat for 15 to 18 minutes or till no pink remains, turning once.
- Serve patties on buns.
