Instructions
- Dress up your steaks and burgers with one of these savory sensations. Each makes enough for 4 servings.
- Mushroom-Onion Sauce: Cook 1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms; 1/2 cup sliced green onion; and 1 clove garlic, minced, in 2 tablespoons margarine or butter till tender. Season to taste.
- Sour Cream and Cheese Sauce: Combine 1/2 cup dairy sour cream and 1/4 cup shredded cheddar or Swiss cheese or 2 tablespoons crumbled blue cheese or feta cheese. If desired, add 1 tablespoon snipped parsley.
- Mustard-Chive Sauce: In a saucepan melt 1 tablespoon margarine or butter. Stir in 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour and 1/8 teaspoon salt. Add 3/4 cup milk. Cook and stir till bubbly. Cook and stir 1 minute more. Remove from heat. Stir in 1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard, 1 teaspoon snipped chives, and 1 teaspoon drained capers.
- Parsley Pesto: In a blender container place 3 tablespoons cooking oil. Add 2 cups lightly packed snipped parsley, 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts, 1 teaspoon dried basil, and 1 clove garlic, quartered. Cover and blend mixture till nearly smooth. Stir in 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese.
