
Peanut Butter Bars

Ingredients
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
- 1/2 recipe Peanut-Butter Frosting (see recipe, page 89)
Instructions
- Combine about half of the flour, the brown sugar, peanut butter, shortening, egg, milk, vanilla, and soda. Beat with an electric mixer on medium to high speed till thoroughly combined. Beat in remaining flour. Stir in oats. Spread batter into an ungreased 8x8x2-inch baking pan.
- Bake in a 375° oven for 15 to 18 minutes or till a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Frost with Peanut-Butter Frosting. Cut into bars.
