Party-Punch Base

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 12 inches stick cinnamon, broken
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 4 cups apple juice, chilled
  • 1 12-ounce can apricot nectar, chilled
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan combine water, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Chill. Strain and discard spices. Combine with apple juice, apricot nectar, and lemon juice.
  2. Party Wine Punch: In punch bowl combine base and two 750-milliliter bottles of chilled dry white wine. Makes 24 (about 4-ounce) servings.
  3. Spiked Party Punch: In a punch bowl combine base and 1 cup vodka, bourbon, brandy, or rum. Makes 14 (about 4-ounce) servings.
  4. Nonalcoholic Punch: In a punch bowl combine base and two 1-liter bottles of chilled club soda or carbonated water. Makes 25 (about 4-ounce) servings.
  5. Individual Cocktails: For each serving, place crushed ice in a glass. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons vodka, bourbon, brandy, or rum. Stir in 1/2 cup base. Makes 12 (about 5-ounce) servings.
