Orange-Chocolate Slices

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup margarine or butter
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons finely shredded orange peel
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 square (1 ounce) semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl beat margarine and shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add about half of the flour, the sugar, brown sugar, egg, orange peel, orange juice, and soda. Beat till thoroughly combined.
- Beat in remaining flour. Stir in chocolate. Shape dough into two 8-inch rolls. Wrap in waxed paper or clear plastic wrap and chill 4 to 24 hours.
- Cut into 1/4-inch slices. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 375° oven 10 to 12 minutes or till edges are lightly browned. Cool cookies on a wire rack.
