
Making Flavored Butters

Instructions
- For a butter base, cut up 1/2 cup butter or margarine, place in an ovenproof bowl, and set into a cool oven. Turn the oven to 350°. Heat about 3 minutes in an electric oven (4 minutes in a gas oven) or till just softened.
- Transfer butter to a cool bowl and use to make one of the following:
- For garlic butter, add 2 cloves garlic, minced, or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder.
- For parsley butter, add 1 tablespoon snipped parsley; 1 teaspoon lemon juice; 1/4 teaspoon dried savory, crushed; and 1/8 teaspoon salt.
- For herb butter, add 1/2 teaspoon ground sage and 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed.
- For lemon-tarragon butter, add 1 teaspoon dried tarragon, crushed, and 1/2 teaspoon finely shredded lemon peel.
- For parmesan butter, add 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese and 1/2 teaspoon dried basil, crushed
- For curry butter, add 1/2 teaspoon curry powder.
- For Cajun butter, add 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper, 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/8 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed.
- For citrus butter, add 1 tablespoon powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon finely shredded orange or lemon peel.
- For breakfast butter, add 2 tablespoons honey or maple-flavored syrup.
- Or, micro-cook on 10% power (low) for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes.
